SERVICES
“Life is easy to chronicle, but bewildering to practice.”
– E.M. Forster
Engaging in counselling is an act of courage and curiosity, the benefits of which can include greater self-awareness, renewed strength, and deeper relationships.
Talk therapy helps you move forward in your life by providing a safe place to have honest conversations that help you connect more deeply with yourself so you can connect more deeply with the people who matter most.
Upstream Counselling offers effective counselling for individuals, couples, and families. We also offer pastoral counselling and clinical supervision.
INDIVIDUAL COUNSELLING
“What we fear doing most is usually what we most need to do.”
– Ralph Waldo Emerson
Individual counselling is an investment you make in yourself. As you work toward achieving your own specific goals, you will develop increased self-awareness by exploring and examining why you think and feel the things you do. Though we all have our own reasons to come to counselling, the deeper purpose is always to weave the many aspects of who you are into an integrated self.
This sense of internal cohesion is what enables you to shift your perception of negative situations and circumstances away from anxiety, depression, and stress, and toward healthier coping strategies.
COUPLES COUNSELLING
“Great marriages aren’t about clear communication; they’re about small moments of attachment and intimacy.”
– John Gottman
Your relationship with your partner is crucial to your psychological health. It’s also your most complex relationship. If you are feeling lonely or distant in your relationship, you are not alone. Achieving (and keeping) authentic connection is a delicate and ongoing process.
Whether you are a new couple or have been together for many years, there is always room for improvement. Couples counselling is an opportunity to experience a deeper level of connection and closeness. You can become the partner you want to be, and build a connection that works, so you can be a winning team.
Note: Couples counselling tends to be more effective with 85min sessions so that we have time to allow healing conversations to develop and unfold more fully.
FAMILY & PARENTING COUNSELLING
FAMILY
“A single sunbeam is enough to drive away many shadows.”
– St. Francis of Assisi
Counselling can be useful when the whole family is experiencing transition or adversity. Sessions focus on understanding each member’s role in the family so that you can stabilize the family unit by improving communication and exploring new ways of doing family together.
Note: Family counselling tends to be more effective with 85min sessions so that we have time to allow healing conversations to develop and unfold more fully.
PARENTING
“It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken adults.”
– Frederick Douglass
Whether you’re co-parenting, solo parenting, or somewhere in-between, counselling will equip you with the tools and insights you need to raise resilient kids.
From toddlers to teens and into adulthood, we will promote and reinforce healthy, authoritative communication, so you can pass on the skills and wisdom they need to succeed against life’s challenges.
PASTORAL COUNSELLING
“Leap of faith, yes, but only after reflection.”
― Soren Kierkegaard
Pastoral counselling isn’t just for pastors; it’s for anyone who wants counselling that promotes integration of faith and spirituality in the therapeutic process.
Whether your career is in ministry or you’re working through personal challenges; whether your faith is strong or you’re going through a season of doubt; whether you’re religious or spiritual, pastoral counselling helps you move through adversity using the lens of your core beliefs so you can lead a life that models your integrity.
CLINICAL SUPERVISION
“Be patient with yourself. Self-growth is tender; it’s holy ground. There’s no greater investment.”
– Stephen Covey
There’s an implicit vulnerability in learning, which is why good clinical supervision begins with forming a secure relationship. A strong connection between us helps you explore and maximize your strengths as a psychotherapist. It also helps make it safe to notice and manage your blind spots, so you can be more present with your clients.
Whether you are a new grad / RP-Q completing your clinical supervision hours, or a psychotherapist in independent practice seeking a fresh take on your unique approach to counselling, it would be my honour to partner with you.
Together, we will strive to build your confidence, not only in your theory and technique, but also in your capacity to model vulnerability with your clients, so you can provide the secure relationship they need from you.
Dyadic and group supervision available by request.
Note: Supervision is not personal therapy. While I do offer therapy for therapists, I cannot provide both supervision and therapy to the same person.
